To our LCL family,
Our word for 2020 is HOPE. It has been such a heavy year for us all, when we first made the decision to cancel our summer programs, we felt hopeless. This is the first summer in 4 years that we are not traveling, connecting with unfamiliar cultures, getting inspired by creative people, learning new ways to learn, and making movies with our stars. However, that doesn’t mean we aren’t working, from home, to make our programs the best they can be. We are looking at our values, and seeing how we can better serve them. We are resting, reflecting, and rebuilding. We have hope that we will come back next year stronger than ever.
This year, through the fire, the volcanoes, the deaths, the virus, the layoffs, we are starting to see change. Quarantine allowed us to pause. We didn’t even know we needed a break. The Black Lives Matter movement is making its way around the world, and we see our young stars educating themselves about injustice, as well as viruses. We hope to empower these stars to use their voices to continue the conversation through filmmaking.
We hope to continue educating our stars on injustice, safety, respect, and equality, even more intentionally than in the past. We see a future where children have the technical and creative skills necessary to channel their thoughts and emotions into an impactful conversation, through filmmaking. As for our filmmakers and edutainers, if we can help amplify your voices during this time, or support you, please let us know. Whether you are a star or a director, you have made amazing movies in just one week. We hope you use that same determination to CREATE during this time. CREATE to express yourself, and then SHARE it with us, so we can learn with you. Your stories are powerful, and what you choose to share with your community, is empowering to us.
Our word for 2020 is HOPE. Because drastic change, requires hope that the painful risks we are taking now, will lead to a better future. If you have hopes for how LCL can better serve you, and your community, please let us know. We are listening.
