Past, Present, and Future
PRESENT
What are we currently up to?
Due to the pandemic, LCL decided to only do two programs this year. Both in one country, the first country we started with: Tunisia. We are currently accepting applications for any travel-loving, storytellers, educators, leaders, and filmmakers that are ready to make a difference.
The topics we are tackling in these sessions include discrimination, equality, health, and the environment. If any of these topics are close to your heart: join us! If you know this program is perfect for someone you know and love, send it to them! We have a local team that is working on making sure this summer session is safe: from covid-19 and for the future generations by tackling issues that will make our world a safer place.
PAST
Where has LCL been?
During the pandemic, we have been developing our leadership training program, refining our structure, publishing our research, taking time to celebrate our accomplishments, attending conferences, and hosting edutainment workshops in the UAE and Kenya.
Check out our latest video where our stars in Kenya shared their dreams for their future. Check out our our workshops with the Sharjah Art Foundation.
What research is LCL involved in?
LCL has recently published two articles!
“Making Short Films in a Foreign Language: A Performative Pedagogy”
FUTURE
What does the future hold for us?
Lastly, we are going to Colorado this Spring with the Watson Institute!
The Watson Semester Accelerator in Boulder, Colorado is a 16-week program for next-generation innovators, leaders, and entrepreneurs to grow their impact-driven businesses. Thanks to the Martini Education and Opportunity Trust, our Founder, Amal Bahloul, will be able to focus on growing LCL sustainably. Here is what she has to say about this:
“Lights, Camera, Learn is a majestic dream. It started in 2006 with my father’s research on innovative pedagogies such as teaching through the arts. Then, it became teaching language through the art of filmmaking. Then we started our International Internship Program, which allowed us to travel to 9 countries, and work with underserved communities. Then we decided to localize and diversify our programs so that we’re not only focusing on languages. We launched a teacher training program, and our movies even started circulating in Children’s Film Festivals. Somewhere along that journey my dream became bigger than just “MY dream” and many people helped build LCL into what it is today. Many leaders came along and expressed to me that working on LCL’s mission is their dream job, it is where they want to grow their careers, especially interns that joined our leadership training program and have led their own programs. Now, I am joining Watson to make sure LCL has the structure and capabilities to allow passionate leaders to join the team. We have never raised funds, and for an organization that has educated over 700 children, trained over 80 teachers, and created over 100+ short films in 9 countries, without a full-time team, we have reached our maximum capacity for impact. We are excited to see how we are going to grow, and we can’t wait to be a part of the Watson and MEOT family.”
